What is VoLTE?


Also known as Voice over LTE, VoLTE is a technology that enables voice calls to be made on the 4G network. TPG mobile network is built using the 4G technology which means calls can only be made using VoLTE.

 VoLTE provides you with better voice quality, faster call setup and the ability to be connected at 4G speed even as you call. Talk about a true multitasking experience!

1. Why do you have a limited number of supported devices?


TPG mobile network is built using the 4G technology which means voice calls can only be made using VoLTE capable handsets supported by our network. Currently, VoLTE capable handsets supported by our network are listed here.

We encourage customers with handsets not listed to download TPG 4G Voice to make and receive calls on their TPG mobile number. 


 
2. How to enable VoLTE?

Ensure you are using the latest firmware on these locally distributed handsets to use VoLTE. Here is the step-by-step guide to enable VoLTE on your device:
 
Apple Device

  • Tap Settings > General > Software Update to install the latest iOS
  • Check and ensure your device is connected to TPG network and configured with TPG APN setting
  • Proceed to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Voice & Data
  • Select LTE or 4G and enable VoLTE
  • Go ahead and make a call!

 
Android Device

  • Check and ensure your device is connected to TPG network and configured with TPG APN setting
  • Proceed to Settings > Mobile Data Options > enable VoLTE
  • Go ahead and make a call!

 

3. How to make VoLTE calls?

Generally, the VoLTE supported handsets will show VOLTE near the signal bar to indicate that it is enabled. Once the VoLTE indicator had been displayed near the signal bar, go to the phone dial pad and dial the number which you want to reach.

  • Xiaomi – use the specific *#*#86583#*#* code to disable the carrier check setting (enable VoLTE)
  • iPhone – Most of the iPhone from iPhone 7 and above. The default iPhone setting stays VOLTE OFF and need to be enabled manually via VoLTE toggle in Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > VoLTE is set to ON

 

4. Why do I have to dial these numbers? (Disable carrier & select TPG as a carrier)

This is only for a certain type of handsets where the handset had locked the VoLTE functionality

 

5. Why does it not work when my handset is 4G capable?

There are many handsets in the market which are 4G capable but it may not be VoLTE capable. Do download TPG 4G Voice application to make voice calls.

 

6. It was working fine with another provider. Why does it not work with TPG? 

Other providers in Singapore has a 3G spectrum where the non-VoLTE capable phones are able to make outgoing circuit switch calls. TPG is a 4G only network that provides consumers with a high data speed connection as well as higher quality voice calls with VoLTE.

 

7. Why is it not automatic like with (name of another provider)?

Handset manufacturers had preloaded other provider’s profile and network settings in the handset-based from a commercial arrangement.

 

8. Why do I need to do this? (IMS settings)

This will ensure that you will be able to make high-quality voice calls via VoLTE in TPG’s network.

 

9. It was working before, why do I have to key in the settings again? 

The phone settings may have reverted back to their default setting after performing a software update on the handset’s operating system. Please key in the settings again when there is a major software version update.
